What size Battery do I need?
In order to determine the size of the battery you require, comes down to understanding your energy needs.
Daily Consumption
The best place to start is by looking at your energy bill. Specifically your looking for your average daily kWh usage. This will give you a good idea of how much energy you ate typically consuming. It’s a key metric to determining the size of the battery that you will need.
Peak Energy Demand
Once you’ve determined your average typical daily usage, we need to take into account how you use your energy. At different times of the day and at different times of the year we use our energy differently. In the evening we tend to have higher usage, people are at home rather than out at work. This results in a higher demand, including lights, TV’s and other appliances as well as Heating.
The size of the battery must be capable of handling these peak demand periods.
Power Outage Backup
Do you want the battery to keep things powered when a power outage occurs. What appliances and systems do you want to power from the battery, Typically this might be refrigerators, lights and heating. You need to calculate the energy requirements of those appliances and systems.
Future Requirements
Finally don’t forget to take into account what might change in the future. Do you have plans to increase the number of appliances, to add an EV Charger or Expanding the number of Solar Panels that you have. You need to take these factors into account when determining the size of your battery.
